Dear Parents and Community Members of Cummings Elementary School,
It is with great excitement that I introduce myself as your new principal. Many personal and professional experiences throughout my life have prepared me for this position. I am the parent of two bilingual children, who taught me the challenges and rewards of raising them to become respectful, responsible and culturally competent young adults. As an elementary teacher I enjoyed many years of natural curiosity in young children, their eagerness to learn new things, and their parents’ desire to do what is best for their children.
I am happy to be on board as your new principal and am looking forward to working as part of a goal-oriented and passionate team. Staff, parents and students at Cummings are a large family and we do every day what is best for each one of our children. Cummings is known for building long lasting relationships with your students and families. Coincidentally, my husband went to Cummings in the late 60’s, so I am thrilled to work and learn where he started his formal education.
My training and skills that will allow me to be a qualified leader include training as an ESOL teacher (Master’s degree from the University of Munich), seven years of teaching at the elementary level in this district and thirteen years of experience as an administrator.
As one of my first projects at Cummings, I will immerse myself into the grade level data teams that will research past and current academic performance of our students. These teams will advise us as we are setting goals for improvements in reading and math for all of our students, but especially for those who do not speak English in their homes.
On a personal note, I have lived in Keizer for 26 years and will enjoy the short commute. I am an avid swimmer and cyclist, and love baking Christmas cookies. As a former elementary PE teacher, I would love to create a wellness team for parents and staff, with the purpose of stress relief, companionship and health benefits. Suggestions are welcome!
I am looking forward to the opportunity to build new personal and professional relationships at Cummings Elementary School.
We will be hosting an OPEN HOUSE on September 6th, 2016, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. I hope to meet you then, if not sooner.
